Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly reaffirmed the government’s commitment to developing Egypt’s civil aviation sector through the modernisation of airport infrastructure, improved passenger services, and enhanced safety and security standards, as he reviewed progress on the Terminal 4 project at Cairo International Airport.
During a meeting with Minister of Civil Aviation Sameh El Hefny, Madbouly reviewed the latest implementation developments and the project’s strategic vision. The new terminal is one of the government’s flagship infrastructure projects aimed at expanding Cairo International Airport and reinforcing its position as a leading regional and international aviation hub.
Madbouly said the government places great importance on upgrading the civil aviation sector as part of broader efforts to improve the passenger experience and enhance the competitiveness of Egyptian airports at both the regional and global levels.
For his part, El Hefny said the Terminal 4 project forms part of a comprehensive strategy to increase Cairo International Airport’s annual passenger handling capacity to around 70 million passengers, enabling it to accommodate the anticipated growth in air travel and airline operations over the coming years.
He added that the expansion will further leverage Egypt’s strategic geographical location at the crossroads of Africa, Asia and Europe, strengthening Cairo’s role as a major gateway for regional and international air traffic.
The minister noted that the new terminal is being designed in line with the latest international airport planning and operational standards, incorporating artificial intelligence and digital transformation technologies to establish a smart, integrated and sustainable operating system that enhances passenger services and improves operational efficiency.
He added that the project also complies with the highest international standards for environmental sustainability and efficient resource management, supporting Egypt’s broader transition towards greener infrastructure.
El Hefny described the project as a strategic investment in the future of Egypt’s aviation industry, saying it is expected to strengthen the competitiveness of Cairo International Airport, increase transit passenger traffic, attract more international airlines, and support the growth of tourism, trade and investment.
He added that the project will create new opportunities for economic growth in line with Egypt Vision 2030 and the state’s strategy to position Egypt as a leading regional hub for transport, logistics and aviation services, while increasing the civil aviation sector’s contribution to the national economy and sustainable development.
The minister concluded by saying that the Terminal 4 project reflects Egypt’s drive to develop smart airports capable of keeping pace with global advances in the aviation industry, while enhancing the resilience and sustainability of civil aviation infrastructure to ensure Cairo International Airport is well positioned to meet future growth in passenger and air traffic demand.
