Egypt, Italy discuss cooperation in digital transformation, post services

Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Amr Talaat, on Thursday received Gambaolo Cantini, Ambassador of Italy to Cairo, to discuss ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in several fields, the most prominent of which are digital transformation and post services.

During the meeting, Talaat reviewed the Egyptian efforts to digitalise public services and introduce unified cards through which citizens can access all subsidy programmes. He added that a pilot project was implemented in Port Said governorate, to provide digital financial services to citizens in the governorate.

The Minister also emphasised that Egypt Post is one of the pillars of the digital financial system in the country, especially since the network of post offices spread nationwide has become eligible to accommodate financial transactions for a number of digital payment cards.

For his part, the Italian ambassador reviewed the developments of the communications and information technology sector in Italy and the current trends regarding communications, information technology and digital infrastructure to address the economic impacts of the novel coronavirus pandemic at the European Union (EU) level.

He added that Italy has a digital ID system, which allows citizens to access financial services online.

Cantini welcomed the strengthening of cooperation between Italian fintech institutions and Egypt Post, in a way that help the Egyptian community in Italy carry out electronic financial transactions easily and reduce related administrative expenses.
