Globaltronics won the tender for the supply of 110,000 prepaid electricity metres for the North and South Delta Electricity Distribution companies.

Informed sources told Daily News Egypt that the financial and technical offers made by Globaltronics outperformed competing companies, and therefore it will supply 100,000 electricity metres for the North Delta Electricity Distribution Company, and 10,000 three phase electricity metres for the South Delta Electricity Distribution Company.

The sources added that Globaltronics will start supplying the metres over several phases according to the agreement with the distribution companies. The company is now also competing with other seven companies, including El Sewedy and El Maasara for Engineering Industries to supply 250,000 electricity metres to five distribution companies, including South Cairo, Alexandria, Upper Egypt, and Middle Egypt. The tenders are still in the stage of technical and financial bids studying.

The sources said that prepaid metre allow subscribers to monitor and rationalise consumption, as it shows on screen the consumption balance (kw/h), value in pounds, the number of days remaining in the balance, and the possibility of identifying the segment of electricity consumption. There is also a button on the screen that can display contractual capacity and about 22 other items.

The sources confirmed that the prepaid metres eliminate the problem of misreading, which many consumers suffer, because they rely on charging cards system, in addition to preventing electricity theft and saving fuel used in electricity generation.

They pointed out that the metres are also equipped with a flashing light that is turned on when the balance reaches 25% and intermittently flashes when the balance reaches 10% to alert the consumer.

The sources explained that the subscriber can recharge the card any time and with any amount desired instead of waiting for the balance to expire.
