Around 20 Egyptian companies are preparing to participate in WorldFood Moscow 2026, scheduled to take place from 15 to 18 September, as Egypt steps up efforts to expand food exports and strengthen the presence of local products in the Russian market.

Ahead of the exhibition, the Egyptian Commercial Service (ECS) office in Moscow organised a virtual seminar in cooperation with the Food Export Council and the exhibition organiser to explore opportunities to increase Egyptian food industry exports to Russia.

The seminar reviewed key features of the Russian market, with a particular focus on the food sector, highlighting promising opportunities for Egyptian products, including frozen fruit and vegetables, canned food, herbs and spices. Discussions also addressed challenges facing exporters, particularly logistics, shipping and market access.

The ECS said WorldFood Moscow represents an important platform for Egyptian companies to establish direct contacts with importers and distributors in Russia and Eurasian markets, helping create new business partnerships and secure potential export contracts.

Egypt currently ranks first among suppliers of frozen strawberries, frozen vegetables and herbs to the Russian market, underlining the competitiveness of Egyptian agricultural and food products.

The number of Egyptian companies exporting processed food products to Russia has reached approximately 172, including 21 companies whose exports exceeded $1m each, reflecting the growing base of Egyptian suppliers operating in the market.

The event also featured Shamil Magomedov, Executive Director of the Russian Association of Retail Market Experts, who outlined key trends in Russia’s food market and requirements that Egyptian exporters need to consider, including product standards, logistics and distribution channels.

Abdel Aziz El Sherif, First Undersecretary at the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade and Head of the ECS, said the seminar forms part of efforts to intensify sector-focused export promotion activities in markets offering strong growth potential.

He noted that total trade between Egypt and Russia reached around $6bn in 2025, while Egyptian exports to Russia increased by 34.5% to $810m, compared with $602m in 2024.

The upward trend continued in 2026, with Egyptian exports to Russia reaching approximately $613m during the January-July period, El Sherif said, adding that the Russian market continues to offer significant opportunities for Egyptian products.

He highlighted food industries as one of the key sectors capable of supporting further export growth, citing the competitiveness of Egyptian products, growing demand for food and agricultural commodities, and Egyptian companies’ accumulated experience in serving the Russian market.

The ECS office in Moscow will work with the Food Export Council to support Egyptian companies participating in WorldFood Moscow by facilitating contacts with importers and distributors, providing market intelligence, and following up on potential business opportunities and export contracts.
