President of Djibouti Ismail Omar Guelleh received Egypt’s Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel Al-Wazir, along with a delegation representing leading Egyptian public- and private-sector companies specialising in infrastructure, transport and industrial zone projects.
President Guelleh said the visit reflects the deep-rooted and historic ties between Djibouti and Egypt, which constitute a solid foundation for advancing the interests of both nations. He highlighted the significance of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi’s historic visit to Djibouti on 23 April 2025, during which both sides stressed the importance of expanding bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors and increasing trade volumes to better reflect the strength of relations.
The Djiboutian President also underscored the importance of establishing a Djiboutian-Egyptian Business Council, particularly in light of the pivotal regional and international roles played by both countries and Egypt’s notable development achievements across various sectors.
Guelleh welcomed Egyptian companies to participate in the implementation of infrastructure, transport, industrial, logistics, agricultural and tourism projects in Djibouti, citing their professionalism and extensive experience both domestically and internationally.
For his part, Al-Wazir expressed appreciation for the meeting and conveyed the greetings of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to the Djiboutian leadership and people. He noted that, in line with presidential directives, the Egyptian delegation includes representatives of seven major companies specialising in infrastructure, transport and industrial zones, underscoring Egypt’s commitment to supporting Djibouti’s development efforts.
He emphasised the companies’ strong technical capabilities and proven track record across Africa in delivering large-scale projects in key sectors, including infrastructure, energy, healthcare, agriculture and pharmaceuticals.
Al-Wazir also reviewed the key outcomes of President El-Sisi’s visit to Djibouti, including the official opening of Banque Misr Djibouti on 3 November 2025; the inauguration of the solar power plant in Omar Kaja village in the Arta region on 26 December 2025; and the signing of several agreements in maritime transport, logistics zones and green energy on 27 December 2025—marking a major milestone in bilateral cooperation in these fields.
He further highlighted productive discussions with Djiboutian ministers aimed at increasing trade, expanding cooperation in transport, industry, agriculture and tourism, and developing a comprehensive plan for integrated commercial and agricultural projects. He stressed the importance of sustained follow-up to ensure the implementation of the outcomes of the presidential visit in line with the joint statement issued by both presidents.
During the meeting, members of the Egyptian company delegation thanked President Guelleh for the opportunity, expressing their readiness to immediately implement agreed projects in accordance with the highest quality standards and timelines, and to transfer Egypt’s successful experience in executing mega projects to Djibouti—supported by strong political will and the close ties between the two countries.
