The demonstrators have stressed their protest will be peaceful but that any violence that may occur would be in self-defence.

Some demonstrators said on Saturday that they had not ruled out a march to presidential palace, which is expected to the focal point of Sunday’s marches.

Opposition groups intend to march around the country to demonstrate against Morsi on the day that marks the one year anniversary of his inauguration. The Tamarod or ‘Rebellion’ campaign that initiated the calls for marches on Sunday claimed on Saturday to have collected over 22 million signatures denouncing Morsi’s legitimacy and calling for early presidential elections.
