Egypt’s telecom regulator monitors mobile service quality during 4Q 2020

The National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) has issued a report on the quality of mobile services in Egypt during the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2020.

In the study, the quality of mobile phone services was measured in 81 regions, with the NTRA doubling voice quality measurement samples by 55%; from 66,500 samples in October to 103,000 samples in December.

Measurement samples for data transmission services increased from 3.5m samples in October to 6m samples in December, an increase of 72%.

According to the report, 35 of the regions monitored saw a poor quality of voice services, out of the 81 regions tested for the Vodafone network. These were notably in Cairo, the Delta, Upper Egypt, and Alexandria.

A total of 37 areas suffered from a poor quality of voice services offered by Orange, especially in the Delta, Alexandria, Cairo, and Suez Canal areas.

The report revealed that 45 areas operating via the Etisalat network were affected by poor quality voice services, particularly in Upper Egypt, the Delta, Cairo, and Alexandria.

The number of regions affected by the quality of We provided mobile voice services reached about 49 areas out of the total 81 areas that were tested. The most important of these areas were Cairo, Upper Egypt, the Delta, and Alexandria.

Regarding the non-initiation of calls indicator, the report showed that 64 regions were affected during October, with 72 regions affected during November, and 66 regions affected during December.

The division of regions affected by the problem of not initiating calls is as follows:

October: 13 areas for Vodafone; 17 areas for Orange; 19 areas for Etisalat; and 15 areas for We.

November: 16 areas for Vodafone; 15 for Orange; 18 for Etisalat; and 23 for We.

December: 9 areas for Vodafone; 18 areas for Orange; 12 areas for Etisalat; and 27 for We.

As for the call voice quality indicator, the number of regions that suffer from poor call voice quality reached 27 regions in October, 13 regions in November, and 14 regions during December. They were divided as follows:

October: 13 regions for Vodafone; 7 areas for Orange; 4 areas for Etisalat; and 3 for We.

November: 10 regions for Vodafone; 1 for Etisalat; and 2 for We.

December: 9 regions for Vodafone; 3 zones for Etisalat; and 2 for We.
