The Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) is seeking to strengthen regulatory cooperation with China and expand partnerships in pharmaceutical manufacturing, vaccines, and technology transfer, according to a statement issued by the authority on Wednesday.
EDA Chairperson Ali El-Ghamrawy met with Yang Xing, Deputy Commissioner of China’s National Medical Products Administration (NMPA), during his visit to China. The meeting was attended by Khaled Nazmy, Egypt’s Ambassador to China, along with representatives of the Chinese regulatory authority.
The discussions focused on enhancing coordination between the two regulatory bodies, exchanging regulatory expertise, and exploring new areas of cooperation in the pharmaceutical sector.
El-Ghamrawy highlighted Egypt’s capabilities in pharmaceutical and vaccine manufacturing, as well as recent developments in the country’s regulatory and manufacturing frameworks aimed at strengthening the competitiveness of the pharmaceutical industry.
He said these developments provide a foundation for expanding international cooperation, supporting technology transfer, exchanging expertise, and building institutional capacities, while contributing to the security and sustainability of pharmaceutical and vaccine supplies.
The EDA chairperson also stressed the importance of leveraging China’s advanced technologies and expertise alongside Egypt’s manufacturing capabilities and regulatory framework to support the development of the pharmaceutical and vaccine industries and create new opportunities for cooperation and investment.
The two sides discussed potential cooperation in pharmaceutical and vaccine manufacturing, technology transfer, and the exchange of regulatory practices and expertise.
The discussions also addressed strengthening institutional coordination between the EDA and NMPA and developing frameworks for joint cooperation and partnerships between companies in the two markets.
The meeting is part of the EDA’s efforts to expand cooperation with international regulatory authorities, exchange expertise and best practices, strengthen regulatory and manufacturing capabilities, and support technology transfer and international partnerships.
The authority said such efforts are also aimed at strengthening Egypt’s pharmaceutical security and supporting its position as a regional pharmaceutical manufacturing hub and a gateway to African markets.
