Huawei Egypt in collaboration with Orange Egypt have successfully modernised and virtualised the Evolved Packet Core (EPC) and Deep Packet Inspection (DPI), moving from the core network’s traditional hardware to software-based elements operating on commercial off-the-shelf servers (COSTS).

Orange Egypt is the first in Egypt and the first Orange-affiliate to go virtual with business-critical function (Packet Core) on a mass market use case (Entire network swap/modernisation).

This new milestone is marking a strategic and long-term relationship which has lasted for more than 13 years.

In order to provide its users with an unmatched experience, Orange Egypt has decided to use the latest NFV and Cloud technologies. Through this strategic partnership, Huawei’s vEPC solution enabled Orange Egypt to build an agile network that quickly scaled to match the performance’s demands for smart services, support faster service rollout, and dynamically allocate virtual resources while providing carrier-grade availability.

“The technical strategy adopted on the THINK/Build/RUN fronts enhanced the time to market while managing skills and business models methodologies. The adopted transformation was managed through agile projects sprints in DevOps relying on a complete and evolved core network architecture” stated Monther Muharram, Director, Converged Core Network Engineering & Implementation at Orange Egypt.

Meanwhile, Ayman Amiri, Chief Technical Officer of Orange Egypt, said, “We are keen to develop the upmost innovative solutions that provide customers with unmatched experience. Huawei has always been our strategic partner on the road to success.”

Also, Jerry Cui, Huawei Egypt CNBG President, stated, “Orange selected Huawei Egypt to develop new technological solutions that would make Orange a leader in the broadband market globally. Thanks to Orange’s trust in Huawei, we will continue to support Orange’s expansion and virtualisation plan to confidently provide their customers the best possible user experience.”

This strategic partnership has empowered both parties to reach new heights and implement new innovations.

The vEPC is a framework for virtualising the functions required to converge data on 3G and Long-Term Evolution (LTE – 4G) networks.
