President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi will focus on enhancing cooperation between Egypt and Russia in the field of transportation during his upcoming visit to Russia on 17 October, announced the Minister of Transportation Hesham Arafat during his interview with Russia Today.

“The contract between Egypt and the Russian-Hungarian alliance for the production of 1,300 trains has been completed at a cost of €1bn–  a dream come true for us,” Arafat declared, adding that the Russian company participating in the consortium is one of the biggest train manufacturers in the world.

During his visit, Al-Sisi is scheduled to meet with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to discuss bilateral relations.

The two leaders have exchanged several official visits. Al-Sisi last visited Russia in 2015, while President Putin’s last visit to Egypt took place in December 2017, resulting in remarkable developments in economic relations between Egypt and Russia.

Over recent years, both countries have signed several agreements in different fields, including the gas and investment sectors.

Last week, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry asserted that the upcoming visit will open new horizons for cooperative relations between the two countries in all fields.
