Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held a series of phone calls on Saturday with his counterparts from Türkiye, Kuwait, Italy, and Norway to push for regional de-escalation, military restraint, and a return to diplomatic negotiations between Iran and the United States.
In separate talks with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Abdelatty agreed on the priority of achieving calm and using the Islamabad Memorandum as a framework to resume US-Iran negotiations and reach comprehensive, sustainable political solutions.
During his call with Sheikh Jarrah, Abdelatty also discussed regional security concerns. The two ministers emphasised addressing sources of tension, adhering to principles of good neighbourliness, respecting state sovereignty and territorial integrity, avoiding internal interference, and settling disputes through diplomatic means.
Addressing regional and international developments with Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, Abdelatty highlighted the importance of prioritising dialogue, reducing tension, and avoiding any military escalation that could threaten regional security or freedom of navigation. The ministers also discussed strengthening bilateral relations across various sectors, building on directives from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
In his call with Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide, Abdelatty offered sincere condolences on the death of King Harald V, praising his contributions to Norway. Eide expressed deep appreciation for a condolence message published on Friday by President al-Sisi.
The Egyptian and Norwegian ministers reviewed bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on regional issues, including the Palestinian cause, Lebanon, Syria, the Iranian file, and efforts toward a political solution to the Ukrainian crisis. Both stressed continuing diplomatic efforts to lower escalation and prioritise peaceful solutions to spare the region further instability.
