Journalist and Press Syndicate member Khalid Dawood said on his Facebook page Wednesday that he was assaulted by pro-government protesters near the Press Syndicate.

“I was subjected to assaults, insults, and severe beating while I was leaving the Press Syndicate. Supporters of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi who gathered near Ramses Street attacked me,” he explained.

He said that without the interference of two Central Security Forces officers who surrounded him until they reached 26th July Street, he could have potentially been killed, according to his words.

He further wrote that the assaults caused him simple injuries.

The Press Syndicate was the scene of many demonstrations on Wednesday as a historic General Assembly was held to announce journalists’ demands following the storming of the syndicate on Sunday evening.

Journalists protested against the government outside of the syndicate while pro-government supporters demonstrated against the journalists.
