Minister of State for Military Production Salah Gamblat witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the ministry-affiliated Toya Technology and Intel, in the presence of Gisselle Ruiz Lanza, Intel’s General Manager for Europe, the Middle East and Africa; Taha Khalifa, Intel’s General Manager for the Middle East and Africa; and a number of executives and officials from both sides.
The agreement comes in implementation of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi’s directives to strengthen cooperation with leading global companies, localise advanced technologies, and deepen local manufacturing.
The MoU was signed by Khaled Mohamed Mahrous, Chairperson of Toya Technology, and Taha Mohamed Khalifa, Intel’s General Manager for the Middle East and Africa.
Gamblat said the MoU aims to support the ministry’s efforts to establish an integrated artificial intelligence ecosystem through training, capacity-building, knowledge transfer, and the exchange of technical expertise. It will also explore opportunities to deploy and locally assemble a number of technological solutions, in line with the state’s drive to localise advanced technologies and deepen local manufacturing.
He said the signing of the MoU forms part of the Ministry of Military Production’s efforts to expand cooperation with specialised global companies and translate areas of cooperation into practical initiatives that contribute to developing human and technological capabilities. It also seeks to maximise the use of resources available at the ministry’s affiliated companies, supporting development and modernisation plans and improving the efficiency of the production system.
Gamblat said areas of cooperation include skills development and capacity-building, providing specialised training content on artificial intelligence applications, and implementing a Training of Trainers (TOT) programme. The agreement also provides for the exchange of expertise and the provision of technical and advisory support related to training programmes.
These efforts are intended to develop professionals capable of working with artificial intelligence applications and deploying them across various fields.
He added that the MoU also includes exploring opportunities for the local assembly of Edge AI solutions and personal computers, supporting the ministry’s efforts to expand the range of technological products that can be manufactured and assembled locally, maximise local added value, and capitalise on national industrial capabilities.
For her part, Gisselle Ruiz Lanza said Intel looks forward to cooperating with the Ministry of Military Production in training, knowledge transfer, and the development of artificial intelligence applications, supporting the implementation of the areas of cooperation outlined in the MoU.
Taha Khalifa added that the cooperation aims to support skills development and the practical application of artificial intelligence technologies, while exploring opportunities to localise and assemble certain technological solutions in Egypt and enhance the utilisation of the skills and capabilities available in the country.
The signing of the MoU follows a meeting held between the Minister of State for Military Production and Intel representatives last July, during which the two sides discussed a number of potential areas of cooperation, including artificial intelligence applications and solutions, industrial software, data centres and servers, Ethernet networking and digital communications technologies, Edge AI technologies, smart cameras, and AI Box units.
The discussions were held as part of efforts to explore opportunities for cooperation and knowledge transfer and deepen local manufacturing in related technology fields.
