The derby between Cairo giants Al-Ahly and Al-Zamalek on Saturday ended in a 1-0 victory for the Red Devils. An own goal in the 21st minute by Al-Zamalek player Ahmed Tawfik decided the game.

The final stage of this season’s Premier League comprises a mini-league of four teams, playing only home matches, to determine the champion.

Saturday’s second match in the league resulted in a clear victory of Smouha over Petrojet: 4-1. The Alexandrian team now leads the league with three points, holding Al-Ahly in second place on goal difference.

Wednesday night matches between Al-Ahly – Petrojet and Al-Zamalek – Smouha are scheduled, with the final matches planned for Sunday.

On the sidelines of the league’s grand finale, both Al-Ahly and Al-Zamalek are working to strengthen their squads for next season.

Mortada Mansour, Al-Zamalek president, confirmed Tuesday the signing of four new players, including striker Bassem Morsi. Al-Ahly signed midfielder Hossam Ghaly, who returns from a one-year stage at Lierse SK in Belgium, and the Belgium defender Louay Wael.
