The German Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office, Serap Güler, has underscored Egypt’s pivotal role in promoting peace, security, and stability across the Middle East during her visit to Cairo, the first stop on a regional tour that will also take her to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Güler said her visit is focused on discussing pressing regional challenges, particularly the ongoing conflict in Sudan. She stressed the urgent need for a strong international commitment to end attempts to resolve the crisis through military means and to support a peaceful political transition in the country.

She noted that the Berlin Principles on Sudan, adopted during the Berlin Sudan Conference in April, provide an important framework for international efforts aimed at addressing the conflict and advancing a political settlement.

The German official said that the growing number of conflicts and crises across the region has made close engagement with Middle Eastern partners both a political priority and a strategic necessity for Germany.

Highlighting the strength of Egyptian-German relations, Güler said the two countries maintain intensive consultations on a wide range of regional and bilateral issues, including economic cooperation, energy, and migration.

She also pointed to the deep cultural and educational ties between the two nations, noting that Germany’s cooperation with Egypt in these fields is among the closest anywhere in the region.

“In light of the current crises facing the region, Egypt plays an important role in promoting peace, security, and regional stability,” Güler said, adding that these issues would feature prominently in her discussions with Egyptian officials during her stay in Cairo.

Following her meetings in Egypt, Güler will travel to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, where she is expected to discuss regional security developments, the conflict in Sudan, and opportunities to strengthen cooperation in foreign policy, culture, and education.
