Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty conducted an intensive round of diplomatic outreach on Sunday, holding high-level talks with counterparts in Ankara, Islamabad, Muscat, and Kuwait City to coordinate a regional response to the escalating crisis in Yemen.

In separate phone calls with the foreign ministers of Turkey, Pakistan, Oman, and Kuwait, Abdelatty emphasised the urgent necessity of regional de-escalation. He called for all parties to prioritise “inclusive intra-Yemeni dialogue” to achieve a comprehensive political settlement, according to statements from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The diplomatic push comes as Cairo seeks to build a regional consensus against “unilateral measures” that threaten the stability and territorial integrity of Yemen. During discussions with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Abdelatty stressed that achieving calm in Yemen is essential for broader regional security.

In his call with Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al-Busaidi, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s support for a political solution that preserves the Yemeni state’s institutions. Similar sentiments were echoed in talks with Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Abdullah Al-Yahya, where both sides agreed on the importance of consensus-building to end the humanitarian suffering of the Yemeni people.

Beyond the Yemen file, the discussions touched upon broader regional challenges:

  • Gaza Strip:Abdelatty reviewed Egypt’s ongoing efforts to transition to the second phase of a peace plan, stressing the need for unimpeded humanitarian aid and a rejection of any measures undermining Palestinian territorial integrity.
  • Horn of Africa:In his call with Turkey’s Fidan, Abdelatty expressed total rejection of Israeli recognition of Somaliland, describing it as a “blatant violation” of international law and Somali sovereignty.
  • Bilateral Relations:Abdelatty and Fidan reviewed preparations for the second High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council meeting, expected to be chaired by President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the first quarter of 2026.
  • Nuclear Diplomacy:Talks with Oman also addressed the Iranian nuclear file, with Abdelatty calling for trust-building measures and a return to diplomatic dialogue to reach a comprehensive agreement.

Abdelatty also highlighted the growth of bilateral ties with Pakistan following his visit to Islamabad in late November, noting the importance of increasing cooperation between the private sectors of both nations.
