The Supreme Committee of the Nile Water Flow, presided by Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Mohamed Abdel Aty, reviewed the water situation in the country and mechanisms of water management to meet the demand of different sectors.

During the meeting on Wednesday, Abdel Aty addressed means of achieving the optimum use of our water resources during the period of maximum consumption of water, in order to provide the farmers with the needed water in the agriculture season.

He stated that the ministry is making continuous efforts within the framework of a comprehensive vision aimed at providing the necessary water needs for all water-using sectors, both quantitatively and qualitatively, which will reflect positively on achieving sustainable development goals and providing services to beneficiaries with the highest degree of justice and effectiveness.

The minister pointed out that the committee is in a permanent session to follow up on rainfall rates at the sources of the Nile, and to determine the quantities of water reaching the Aswan High Dam lake, enabling the ministry’s agencies to deal dynamically in managing the water system with the highest degree of efficiency.

An increase in rainfall rates at the sources of the Nile and the quantities of water reaching the Aswan High Dam’s lake was monitored.

Abdel Aty stressed the need to continue raising the state of emergency in all departments of the ministry in the governorates to follow up water levels in canals and drains, and to ensure the readiness of the bridge sectors to confront any emergency, and the readiness of all stations, electrical feeding lines feeding them, and emergency units.

Interestingly, the Irrigation Minister highlighted the need to monitor all forms of encroachments on the Nile River, canals and drains, with immediate and decisive response to such encroachments and removing them in coordination with the concerned state agencies.
