President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi ordered on Saturday that the opening of major national projects, including the Grand Egyptian Museum, be postponed to 2021, said presidential spokesperson Bassam Rady.

During a meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities Assem El Gazzar, Al-Sisi instructed taking the highest precautionary measures at different construction sites. This would include the provision of all health and safety requirements to workers.

Al-Sisi also directed that the transfer of Egyptian ministries to the New Administrative Capital (NAC) be postponed to next year.

El-Gazzar reviewed the construction process employed at both the NAC and New Alamein City. This came in addition to presenting the results of the ministry’s recent meetings with company officials due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The meeting also tackled renovation projects taking place in Cairo, including that of Tahrir Square, and future preparations for mitigating the effects of storms and heavy rains.
