Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has announced that the number of infections of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) increased to 850 on Thursday in Egypt.

During a press conference on Thursday, Madbouly added that the expected average daily coronavirus infections will be between 60 to 80 in the coming week. However, he noted that Egypt is still far from the coronavirus’ third stage.

Madbouly urged Egyptians to commit to social distancing and to the government’s strict measures to avoid spreading of the disease. He also said that the government has quarantined several villages, but that it is difficult to apply such measure in urban areas and governorates with high population densities.

He revealed that 1,000 ambulances will be dedicated as mobile clinics to deal with emergency cases across the country as part of state efforts to curb the coronavirus’ spread.

Madbouly said that the country’s food and commodity reserves are enough to last six months.  He said that not all Egyptians repatriated from other countries have committed to the 14-day quarantine period.

The repatriation of Egyptians stranded abroad is being undertaken in coordination with the Ministry of Health to take the needed precautions.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Ministry of Health announced 69 new coronavirus infections, with six deaths, bringing the total confirmed cases to 779, including 52 deaths.
