The General Prosecution released on Saturday four policemen, one officer and three lower-ranking personnel, pending an investigation into the death of a detainee in the Hadayek Al-Quba police station, which took place on Friday.

After he was arrested and interrogated for theft-related charges, Ahmed Sayed was announced dead at 12:00 am on Saturday.

The prosecution ordered the forensic department to execute an autopsy of the body, and it also sent an investigation team to interrogate police personnel who were present when the incident occurred.

Preliminary investigations, published by local media, said that the body of the detainee “didn’t have signs of any apparent injures,” and that he died after entering the hospital.

After the family heard about the death of their relative, dozens of people protested in front of the police station, demanding those allegedly responsible for the death of Sayed to be held responsible. After the case escalated, newly appointed Minister of Interior Mahmoud Tawfik announced that the case will be investigated by the prosecution.
