The Federation of Egyptian Banks (FEB) has allocated EGP 300m to complete development projects in 17 informal areas in Helwan and east of Nasr City, according to Dalia Abdel Kader, the FEB’s Community Development head.

FEB held a press conference Thursday, in cooperation with the concerned parties, to assess the achievements implemented so far. This comes in light of the cooperation agreement between the FEB, the Cairo governorate, the armed forces’ administration of military works, and the Ministry of Local Development, signed on 6 February 2014.

During the conference, entitled “From the slums…to a good life”, Abdel Kader said that development in Egypt should start from informal settlements. She noted that such settlements in Egypt are not a ticking time bomb, as is claimed by some.

“There is potential energy that must be exploited to become positive productive energy in society,” added Abdel Kader.”Today we are in the process of the project evaluation, and not yet ready to display the achievements.”

She pointed out that all Egyptian banks contributed to the development plan.
