Samsung had filed a patent infringement complaint against Apple Inc at the US International Trade Commission and won an order in June 2013 banning the sale of some older iPhones and iPads in the United States.
Samsung said in a statement Monday that its agreement with US Internet search giant Google will cover the firms’ existing patents as well as those filed over the next 10 years.
Samsung took 29.6% of the global smartphone market in the fourth quarter, ahead of Apple’s 17.6%, as strong low-end market growth led by Chinese vendors continued to shake up the smartphone industry, the data showed.
The Wall Street Journal, which reported the news earlier, cited people familiar with the deal as saying Apple paid over $200 million.
An Apple spokesman confirmed the purchase but declined to say how much it spent. Israeli media said it was about $350 million.
