SCZONE steps up push to attract US investment

Mostafa Sheikhoun, Chairperson of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), received Eric Gaudiosi, Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy in Cairo, and his accompanying delegation to discuss ways to strengthen economic and investment cooperation between the two sides and review investment opportunities available within the SCZONE, with the aim of expanding engagement with the US business community and American companies.

The meeting addressed several proposed areas of cooperation, including water desalination, solar power, and clean and renewable energy, as well as investment opportunities in pharmaceuticals, information technology and training centres, in addition to the development of ports and logistics zones.

Sheikhoun said the SCZONE’s integrated capabilities, encompassing industrial zones, ports, and logistics zones, provide diverse investment opportunities for US companies.

He highlighted the authority’s interest in benefiting from advanced expertise and technologies in areas of mutual interest, alongside developing logistics services and zones to support opportunities to establish high-value projects within the SCZONE.

He added that the authority aims to move its cooperation with the US business community towards practical steps based on specific investment opportunities and the needs of each sector, while facilitating and accelerating procedures to improve the investment climate and support the establishment of new projects within the SCZONE.

Gaudiosi, for his part, said the US side was interested in strengthening economic and investment cooperation with the SCZONE, stressing the importance of maintaining dialogue and exchanging views on available opportunities in order to broaden areas of partnership between the two sides.

He added that the meeting represented an important step towards strengthening communication between the two sides, stressing the US side’s commitment to continued coordination and exploring areas of cooperation that serve mutual interests and support increased US investment.

The SCZONE continues its efforts to strengthen cooperation with the international business community, broaden its foreign investment base, and promote opportunities available in the industrial, energy, logistics, and maritime sectors, supporting the localisation of industries and maximising added value.
