Egypt’s Minister of Industry, Khaled Hashem, met with Ahmed Hammad, Chairperson of ABB Egypt, to review the company’s expansion plans in the Egyptian market and discuss its role in supporting national development projects, reaffirming the government’s commitment to strengthening Egypt’s electrical and engineering industries.

The meeting was attended by Hussein El Ghazawy, Advisor to the Minister for Energy Affairs, Ahmed Osama, Head of the Minister’s Technical Office, and Abdallah Qassem, Head of Energy Solutions Business and Factory Director at ABB Egypt.

During the meeting, ABB showcased its manufacturing capabilities in Egypt through its main production facility in 10th of Ramadan City—its largest manufacturing hub in the Middle East and Africa—alongside two additional factories located in the Nasr City and Suez Free Zones.

The company said local content reaches up to 78% in some of its products. It also exported nearly 25% of its total production in 2025 to more than 50 countries, with the number of export destinations rising to more than 60 during the first half of 2026.

The discussions also covered ABB’s plans to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions across its manufacturing facilities, with the aim of enhancing the competitiveness of Egyptian-made products in European and global markets.

ABB also expressed interest in participating in the government’s Shams El-Sinaa (Industry Solar Initiative) by installing rooftop solar power systems at its factories to reduce reliance on the national electricity grid and support sustainable industrial production.

Hashem stressed that the electrical and engineering industries are among the seven priority sectors under Egypt’s Industrial Strategy 2030, describing the sector as a key pillar for meeting domestic demand, expanding exports, localising advanced technologies, and increasing value-added manufacturing.

He reaffirmed the Ministry of Industry’s commitment to supporting ABB by addressing any challenges facing its operations in Egypt, while underscoring the importance of continuing efforts to develop local suppliers, increase domestic value addition, and raise the local content ratio of the company’s products.

For his part, Hammad said ABB views Egypt as one of its most strategic markets in the region, noting that the company’s presence in the country for more than a century reflects its long-term commitment to supporting Egypt’s industrial development.

He added that ABB continues to invest in advanced technologies and local capabilities while providing integrated solutions that help businesses improve productivity, enhance sustainability, reduce energy consumption, and strengthen their global competitiveness, in line with Egypt’s vision for a more advanced, competitive, and sustainable industrial sector.
