Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar praised Shifa Al-Orman Cancer Hospital in Luxor as a successful model of cooperation between the state and civil society organisations in delivering healthcare services.

Speaking at an event marking the hospital’s 10th anniversary, Abdel Ghaffar highlighted its role in providing free cancer treatment over the past decade in line with high medical standards, easing the burden on thousands of patients and their families.

He noted that the hospital has significantly improved access to specialised cancer care for residents of Upper Egypt, reducing the need for patients to travel long distances for treatment.

The celebration was attended by senior officials, including Social Solidarity Minister Maya Morsy, Local Development Minister Manal Awad, governors, and representatives of supporting institutions.

Abdel Ghaffar stressed that Egypt’s leadership continues to prioritise human development through a comprehensive strategy aimed at expanding healthcare services, achieving universal health coverage, and ensuring access to high-quality treatment nationwide.

He described Shifa Al-Orman as a clear example of how organised civil society initiatives can complement state efforts to improve healthcare access and promote medical equity, particularly in underserved regions.

The minister also commended Al-Orman Association, which supports the hospital, saying its governance model has helped transform charitable work into a sustainable healthcare service provider. He further praised the dedication of doctors, nurses, technicians, administrators, and volunteers, noting that the hospital’s achievements reflect a strong commitment to patient care and social responsibility.

Abdel Ghaffar reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to expanding cooperation with civil society organisations to strengthen healthcare services and build a more efficient, sustainable system.

Shifa Al-Orman is now recognised as one of Upper Egypt’s leading specialised cancer treatment centres, providing free care to patients from across the country.
