Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mahmoud Esmat, chaired a strategic committee meeting to review the implementation of government measures aimed at reducing electricity consumption, lowering fuel use, and optimising operational patterns across administrative and technical sectors.
The meeting brought together senior officials, including Gaber Desouky, Chairperson of the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company (EEHC); Mona Rizk, Chairperson of the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC); and Ahmed Moheina, First Undersecretary for Strategic Planning and Electrical Performance Follow-up at the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy.
Discussions focused on ensuring the stability and continuity of the national power grid, improving electricity generation efficiency, and preparing for multiple operational scenarios in light of ongoing regional security challenges.
Esmat stressed the importance of adhering to energy-saving measures, including a targeted 30% reduction in fuel consumption by government vehicles, maximising returns from renewable energy sources, and expanding remote working arrangements in administrative sectors without disrupting production.
Highlighting recent progress, he noted that operational adjustments at power plants have reduced fuel consumption per kilowatt-hour to below 170 grams, while maintaining high levels of performance and efficiency.
The minister also underscored the need for continuous monitoring, strong on-site leadership presence, and rapid response mechanisms to address emerging challenges, ensuring a secure and uninterrupted electricity supply for all users.
The meeting reflects Egypt’s ongoing commitment to enhancing energy efficiency, optimising fuel use, and safeguarding the resilience of its national power system amid evolving regional conditions.
