The African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) is seeking to leverage Egyptian expertise to bolster governance and institutional reform across the continent, Executive Director Marie-Antoinette said on Sunday.
During a meeting with Badr Abdelatty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates, Marie-Antoinette expressed her desire to strengthen cooperation with Cairo. She noted that the APRM aims to benefit from Egypt’s experience in supporting the mechanism’s programmes and initiatives to achieve sustainable development goals and solidify governance in African nations.
Abdelatty highlighted Egypt’s commitment to supporting the APRM in enhancing institutional reform paths, empowering women and youth, and improving living standards. He further emphasised the importance of civil society’s role in socio-economic development efforts.
The Foreign Minister reviewed Egypt’s own experience with the national review process, praising the APRM’s role in promoting principles of good governance. He confirmed Egypt’s intent to maintain active participation in the mechanism’s initiatives, particularly in capacity building and administrative reform.
Egypt’s contribution to these continental efforts will be supported by the expertise of the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development and the Cairo International Centre for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding, Abdelatty added.
Marie-Antoinette commended Egypt’s active role and its successful implementation of the national review process, looking forward to enhanced collaboration in the upcoming phase.
