Global golfing attention shifts to the New Giza Golf Club on Monday as the inaugural Egypt Golf Series gets under way, marking a transformative moment for the sport in North Africa.

The opening event, which runs from 19 to 21 January, serves as the curtain-raiser for a prestigious four-tournament swing on the MENA Tour. With a combined prize fund of $400,000 at stake, an elite international field has gathered in the shadow of the pyramids, all seeking to secure vital world ranking points and early-season momentum.

This series represents a significant milestone for the region, as Egypt prepares to host four tournaments officially sanctioned by the International Golf Federation for the first time. Organised in partnership with the Egyptian Golf Federation, the initiative underlines a deep commitment to growing the game locally while offering Egyptian players a rare platform to compete against established international professionals.

Italy’s Ludovico Adamo arrives in Cairo as the clear player to watch. The 27-year-old is in clinical form following a recent victory in Portugal and, with the current MENA Tour leader absent this week, he has a genuine opportunity to close the gap or even seize the overall lead during the Egyptian leg.

However, the path to the title will be far from easy. Adamo faces a stern challenge from a chasing pack that includes Scotland’s Aidan O’Hagan and Sebastian Sandin. The field also boasts significant experience from the major international tours, with Spain’s Alejandro Cañizares and England’s Ashley Chesters adding further depth and pedigree to the competition.

Local Hopes and the Road Ahead

The home crowd will have plenty of local talent to follow, spearheaded by professionals Ahmed Marjan and Nour Shibl. They are joined by a promising group of top-tier amateurs, including brothers Issa and Mohamed Abou El Ella, alongside Abdel Moneim El Shafei and Adam El Shamy, all of whom are eager to test their mettle against world-class opposition.

Following the conclusion of play at New Giza, the series will move to the Marassi Golf Resort on the Mediterranean coast for two consecutive events. The swing will then return to the capital for a final showdown at Madinaty Golf Club, in a series expected to deliver high-stakes drama until the final putt is dropped.
