Egypt’s Planning and Economic Development Minister Rania Al-Mashat met Azerbaijan’s Digital Development and Transport Minister Rashad Nabiyev in Cairo on Monday as the two countries opened the sixth session of the Joint Egyptian–Azerbaijani Committee for Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation.
Al-Mashat said Egypt is seeking to widen cooperation across a range of sectors and noted what she described as steadily developing ties since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992. Collaboration in energy, trade, education and culture has expanded in recent years, she said, forming a solid base for a growing strategic partnership.
She added that relations have continued to strengthen amid converging priorities and an increase in high-level exchanges between the two governments.
Al-Mashat highlighted the visit of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to Egypt in June 2024, which resulted in seven agreements covering economic cooperation, digital transformation, electricity, oil and gas, youth and sports and investment promotion. Further accords were concluded in transport, pharmaceuticals, artificial intelligence and renewable energy, alongside cooperation on green hydrogen, green ammonia and power-plant operations.
She said Egypt aims to expand public–private partnerships in sectors that support sustainable growth, including the green transition, transport, health and education. The government, she added, is working to create conditions that enable international partners and private investors to contribute to Egypt’s development plans while benefiting from the country’s large market and improving investment climate.
The committee meetings continue in Cairo, bringing together officials from both sides to review existing agreements and identify additional areas for cooperation.
