Port Said governorate is moving forward with several investment projects, including the development of the Helnan Port Said Hotel, the revival of the historic Port Said Lighthouse, and new hotel and residential initiatives. These plans were reviewed in a Monday meeting chaired by Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, attended by Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development, the acting Minister of Environment, and Major General Moein Habashi, Governor of Port Said.
The development project for the Helnan Port Said Hotel aims to capitalise on its unique location at the northeastern tip of Africa, where the Mediterranean Sea meets the Suez Canal. The hotel, with a total area of 58,396 square meters and a current capacity of 202 rooms and suites, encompasses a main hotel building, a hotel suites building, 26 commercial shops, an additional hotel building, open sports courts, swimming pool areas, and an open event hall. Proposals from companies are under consideration to increase the hotel’s capacity by adding more rooms and suites, constructing additional commercial units to attract major brands, and enhancing its overall tourism and entertainment services to transform it into a prominent tourist destination.
Efforts are also underway to revive the Port Said Lighthouse area as a historical and tourist attraction. All restoration work for the lighthouse, which was the world’s first concrete lighthouse built in 1869, will be supervised by the Supreme Council of Antiquities. The total area designated for this project is 4,195.88 square meters, including the lighthouse, its surrounding حرم, and several adjacent buildings. Companies have submitted proposals for the revival of the lighthouse building and its surrounding areas under the supervision of relevant authorities, with a vision for the area’s rehabilitation.
Further investment plans include a project for a global hotel in Port Said, a partnership between the Port Said governorate and the Suez Canal Authority. Investment opportunities for this project are being explored, with companies having already submitted offers for the establishment of a global hotel, aligning with the state’s development vision.
Additionally, the Khan Al-Khalili area, one of Port Said’s largest residential tower districts with over 46 residential towers, is slated for optimal utilisation. The land, covering 5,368 square meters, has attracted requests from companies to establish integrated residential projects in partnership with the Port Said governorate, with a commitment to implementing the project using modern urban systems and integrated services.
In response to these proposals, Prime Minister Madbouly directed the formation of a committee comprising representatives from the Ministries of Tourism and Antiquities, Investment and Foreign Trade, and Finance, as well as the Administrative Control Authority, the Council of Ministers’ Advisors Authority, and a representative from the Port Said governorate. This committee will be tasked with evaluating all submitted investment offers.
