Egypt’s Alexandria Cotton Exporters’ Association (Alcotexa) committed to sell 1,199.5 tons of cotton in the week that ended on August 7, an Alcotexa official said on Sunday.
The sale comprised 350 tons of Giza 70, 477 tons of Giza 88, 350 tons of Giza 86 and 22.5 tons of Giza 80, the official said.
The deal brought Alcotexa’s export commitments for the 2009/10 season, which began in September, to 80,368 tons of cotton worth $193.87 million, the official said.
Egypt expects to export 80,000 tons of cotton this season, its agriculture minister said in February.
At this time last year, Alcotexa had sold 23,900 tons of cotton worth $60.7 million.
