Egypt completely rejects any measures that would compromise Somali territorial integrity, including any recognition of the so-called “Somaliland”, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty said on Saturday.

During a phone call with Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdisalam Abdi Ali, Abdelatty stated that recognising Somaliland constitutes a violation of the Federal Republic of Somalia’s unity and sovereignty, according to a ministry statement.

Abdelatty affirmed Egypt’s full support for Somalia and its national institutions, reiterating Cairo’s steadfast position on backing the country’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, while stressing a commitment to its security and stability.

The two officials discussed avenues to strengthen bilateral relations and exchanged views on internal developments in Somalia, alongside regional updates, particularly in the Horn of Africa.

In response, the Somali foreign minister expressed his country’s appreciation for ongoing Egyptian support at the political, developmental, and security levels. He commended Egypt’s firm positions supporting Somalia’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

Ali affirmed his keenness to continue coordination and consultation with Egypt regarding various bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest, in a manner that contributes to supporting security and stability in the Horn of Africa.
