Egypt’s Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar reviewed ongoing development projects at state-run teaching hospitals and institutes, stressing the need to accelerate construction and modernisation efforts to expand specialised healthcare services and improve quality of care.

The Health Ministry said Abdel Ghaffar chaired a meeting of the board of the General Authority for Educational Hospitals and Institutes to assess progress on infrastructure upgrades and healthcare development plans.

The minister emphasised the importance of adhering to project timelines and closely monitoring performance indicators and service quality.

According to the ministry, the meeting reviewed the launch of Ismailia Cancer Hospital following the completion of specialised medical facilities, including operating theatres, reception units, chemotherapy services, and a new radioactive iodine treatment unit aimed at strengthening cancer care outside Cairo.

The discussions also covered renovation and upgrading works at several medical facilities, including the National Kidney Institute, Imbaba Fever Hospital, Damanhour Fever Hospital, Benha Fever Hospital, Al-Ahrar Hospital, Al-Mabra Hospital, Sohag Teaching Hospital, and the National Nutrition Institute.

The ministry noted that a new MRI scanner has been brought into operation at Sohag Teaching Hospital, while construction continues on several projects, including a central warehouse complex in Imbaba, an extension building at Al-Mabra Hospital, and a new internal medicine and oncology building in Benha.

Health Ministry spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said the authority has also expanded the establishment of electroencephalography (EEG) centres across its facilities to improve diagnostic capabilities and healthcare quality.

He added that these efforts have contributed to reducing patient waiting lists and improving access to specialised medical services.

The ministry confirmed it will continue monitoring the implementation of development plans to enhance healthcare infrastructure and improve medical, educational, and research services nationwide.

The meeting was attended by representatives from Egypt’s Supreme Council of Universities, medical schools, the Finance Ministry, the National Bank of Egypt, and senior officials from educational hospitals and medical institutes.
