Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Alaa Farouk, has inspected the Al-Salihiya agricultural project in Sharqia governorate, a major integrated development in diverse agricultural investment, the ministry said in a statement.
Accompanied by Sharqia Governor Hazem Al-Ashmouny, the minister toured the project, which is located in the new city of Al-Salihiya.
The project, which spans a total area of 21,000 acres, is irrigated by eight water stations and is involved in diverse and integrated agricultural and plant production, as well as livestock and poultry breeding, fish farming, and supplementary activities. These include dairy milking stations, a feed factory, a compost production station, a salt factory, a cardboard factory, and distribution and sales outlets.
The project’s agricultural production includes various vegetable and fruit crops, utilising modern irrigation systems and advanced agricultural mechanisation. It also features honey apiaries, mulberry trees, and a silkworm production project.
The livestock production projects include two dairy farms, a veterinary quarantine, an automated milking parlour, a feed factory, and a unit for processing various meat products. The poultry production project includes sheds for raising chickens and ducks, table egg production, a feed factory, and a cardboard factory.
Farouk praised the efforts at the Al-Salihiya project, the scale of its achievements, and the modern technologies used, affirming that it represents a successful model for integrated agricultural investment that contributes to food security.
“This project is evidence of the Egyptian agricultural sector’s ability to continuously develop and innovate,” Farouk said, noting that such projects not only increase agricultural and animal production but also create direct and indirect job opportunities, support the local economy, and contribute to food security.
The minister stressed that the ministry is keen to provide all facilities and support to serious investors in the agricultural sector, in line with the state’s vision of expanding horizontally and vertically to achieve food security and increase production of strategic crops and basic food products.
“The private sector is an essential element for achieving sustainability in the agricultural sector,” Farouk said, adding that the political leadership, headed by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, pays great attention to creating a suitable working environment for the private sector.
