Ayman Essam, head of the external and legal affairs sector at Vodafone Egypt, has said that the current power outage crisis has a negative impact on the efficiency of its mobile network.

He told Daily News Egypt that the company installed electric generators at its mobile phone base stations, in addition to providing backup quantities of diesel to operate the mobile towers in the event of service interruption.

He said that the company has a number of mobile towers powered by renewable solar energy, which helps the continuation of the service and not be affected by power outages.

Essam explained that the company relies on clean energy in administrative buildings and data centres, as part of the company’s efforts to implement a smart system to rationalize energy consumption.

In recent weeks, Egypt has witnessed frequent power outages daily that sometimes extend to an hour or more, due to load shedding.
