Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, met with Fadi Pharaon, Senior Vice President and President of Ericsson in the Middle East and Africa, and a number of the company’s leaders on Tuesday. The meeting discussed the expansion of the company’s activities in the field of digital services in Egypt.

This came during his participation in the activities of the International Mobile Exhibition and Conference (MWC 2023), which is organized by the International Association of Mobile Networks (GSMA) in Barcelona, Spain.

The meeting shed light on Egypt’s digital strategy and the Egyptian state’s efforts to improve the quality of telecommunications and internet services throughout the republic, and highlighted what has been accomplished to develop the information infrastructure in Egypt’s villages within the framework of the Hayah Karima initiative.

The company’s officials also reviewed the company’s latest products, services and solutions, in addition to Ericsson’s vision and future plans in Egypt. Cooperation opportunities were discussed to benefit from Ericsson’s technologies and solutions related to confronting climate change, in addition to cooperation in the field of building digital capabilities in line with Egypt’s digital strategy.

Opportunities for expanding the company’s activities in the field of outsourcing and exporting digital services from Egypt through the various outsourcing centers of Ericsson in Egypt were also discussed.

Talaat also held a meeting with Jean-François Barel, CEO of Nokia, and a number of the company’s leaders, to discuss the company’s plans to expand the volume of its work in the manufacture of mobile phones in Egypt, and export abroad, where reference was made to the facilities provided by the Egyptian state to stimulate companies operating in Manufacturing and designing electronics to invest and expand its business in Egypt.

He also met with Wilfredo Sotolongo, Senior Vice President and Head of Customer Division, Lenovo Group for Infrastructure Solutions and Alaa Bawab, General Manager of Lenovo Group in the Middle East and Africa. The meeting discussed the possibility of establishing an engineering design center for the company in Knowledge City in the New Administrative Capital.

It was mentioned that the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology established a center for the electronics industry in Egypt, in the Knowledge City in the New Administrative Capital, which hosts companies specialized in the field of electronics design, to serve as a center for research, development and innovation, with its specialized laboratories.

The Minister of Communications also held a meeting with Ralph Pichler, CEO of Detecon, a global company specialized in management and technology consulting, affiliated with the German Deutsche Telekom Group.

During the meeting, company officials reviewed the company’s vision on best practices and business models for the development of the telecommunications industry. The German Deutsche Telekom Group’s experience in spreading fiber optic cables was also reviewed.

Talaat explained the efforts exerted to spread Egypt’s digital innovation centers throughout the Republic to prepare digital cadres in the field of communications and information technology, and to support technological innovation and entrepreneurship.
