Egyptian Health Minister discusses bilateral cooperation with MSD Pharmaceutical Company

Egypt’s Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar received the General Manager of MSD Pharmaceutical Company in Egypt, Hazem Abdel, to discuss strengthening cooperation in the health sector.

During the meeting, the minister discussed cooperation with the MSD company to provide the latest oncological treatments (immunotherapy) for breast cancer patients, at affordable prices. This will benefit health insurance beneficiaries,  and the patients being treated at the state’s expense, under the umbrella of the president’s initiative to support women’s health.

Accordingly, a memorandum of understanding was prepared to offer drug prices, in coordination between the Unified Procurement Authority and the company, intending to contribute to reducing the burden on patients with breast tumours, and facilitating their access to medicine.

Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, indicated that the meeting dealt with aspects of cooperation in the field of health awareness, by organizing campaigns to raise awareness of cervical cancer and ways to prevent it.

Moreover, it also addressed introducing methods for the early detection of tumours, as well as organizing health campaigns to raise women’s awareness in Upper Egypt of the importance of family planning, preserving the public health of citizens, and being in line with Egypt 2030 Vision.

Abdel Ghaffar added that the minister discussed the mechanisms of tripartite cooperation between the Ministry of Health and Population, represented by the presidential initiative to support women’s health, the MSD company and a Swiss university to develop a clear plan aimed at training medical workers, by training 60 doctors annually, in the speciality Cancerous tumours.
