Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said that the precautionary measures that we are taking to prevent exposure to the coronavirus should be adequate in countering recently discovered ‘Florona’ virus, in a statement released on Saturday.
This statement was released in response to what was published regarding the emergence of a new virus that combines corona and bird flu called Florona, after Israel announced its first Florona case on Thursday.
Abdel Ghaffar explained that the emergence of Florona was expected, as when COVID-19 first emerged in January 2020, scientists were talking about the possibility of being infected with the novel virus and influenza at the same time.
He stressed on the need to adhere to social distancing, avoid crowded or poorly ventilated areas, wear a mask, and wash one’s hands regularly.
The “double disease” was recorded in an unvaccinated woman who was admitted to the Rabin Medical Centre in the last week of December 2021 to give birth. The patient is in good health so far with only mild symptoms.
The ministry added in its daily update that 25 new COVID-19-related deaths were recorded in the past 24 hours nationwide, bringing the total number of deaths from the virus to 21,752.
The statement added that 539 patients have been discharged after recovering from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 320,563.
