Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League, has confirmed the organisation’s commitment to supporting Libya’s new executive authority.

The new Government of National Unity (GNU) is led by President Mohamed Al-Menfi and Prime Minister Abdel Hamid Dbeiba.

Aboul Gheit congratulated Libyan Minister of Foreign Affairs Najla Al-Mankush in a telephone call, on Thursday, for her taking over the portfolio in the GNU.

He reiterated the Arab League’s commitment to continue its efforts to support Libya’s stability and promote national reconciliation among its citizens.

This will contribute to the completion of the preliminary benefits and the holding of national elections as scheduled at the end of this year.

Aboul Gheit and Al-Mankush also discussed ways to strengthen Arab support for Libya at this important stage of its transition process. It includes promoting cooperation between the Arab League and Libya, in support of joint Arab action and the higher interests of the region.
