Minister of Emigration says Gov’t searches for Egyptian investors abroad

The government, represented by the Ministry of Emigration, and the General Investment Authority, has started executive steps to attract the capitals of Egyptian investors abroad to implement projects in the local market. Nabila Makram, Minister of Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs , said that the Ministry prepared a list that of all Egyptian investors abroad to communicate with them in coordination with the General Investment Authority to attract them to the Egyptian market.

On Sunday, Makram, in the company of Adviser Mohamed Abdel Wahab, Chairperson of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones, opened the Egyptian Investors Abroad Welfare Unit at the General Investment Authority. The new unit is affiliated to the Authority’s CEO, and it aims to help Egyptian investors abroad who want to set up their investment projects in Egypt, introduce them to the services provided by the authority, and facilitate investment for them.

Makram said that the unit will be responsible for completing all procedures for Egyptian investors abroad, as it includes representatives from the Minister of Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs to facilitate communication with Egyptians abroad. She pointed out that the first work of the new unit was the agreement with a group of Egyptian doctors working abroad to establish a world medical city in the New Administrative Capital.

She added that the doctors visited the Administrative Capital to choose a plot of land suitable for the project, which is to include a group of major health entities.

Mohamed Abdel Wahab, CEO of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones, said that the authority had a list of between 300 and 400 Egyptian investors residing abroad, and is currently communicating with them to attract their investments to the Egyptian market. He added that the authority would present investment opportunities to Egyptian investors abroad and issue the necessary licences for projects until the signing of project contracts.

He noted that a group of the most qualified employees of the authority was selected to become the nucleus of this unit, in cooperation with the Ministry of Immigration, expressing his aspiration for this unit to become a model for cooperation between state institutions to achieve sustainable development plans.
