Sales of personal computers (PC) across Egypt have surged by 10%-15% during the first half (H1) of 2020, according to Khalil Hassan Khalil, head of the General Division for Digital Economy and Computers at the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce (FEDCOC).

Khalil noted that the surge was noted at the same time as many Egyptians nationwide were being asked to work or study from home due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. This ensured a commensurate growth in computer sales to take care of the increased digitisation of living.

He explained that most of the sales took place via the Internet during the first three months of 2020. He also expects that computer sales will continue to grow naturally during the rest of the year.

The Egyptian government has taken a number of precautionary measures to confront the coronavirus outbreak since last March. These include suspending studies at schools and motivating employees to work from home.
