Student enrolment in higher education increase by 4% during 2018/2019: CAPMAS

In a press release, The Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) said that the total number of students enrolled in higher education in Egypt reached 3.1 million students during the academic year 2018/2019 compared to 2.99 million students during the academic year 2017/2018, an increase of 4%.

CAPMAS also stated that the rate of enrollment in university education in the Arab region is 32.52% for males, 33.51% for females, compared to 31.65% for males, and 32.32% for females in Egypt.

In addition, the secondary education rate in Egypt reached 78.5% and 75.6%.

Globally, enrollment stands at 95.9% in Latin America and the Caribbean, 84.8% in East Asia and the Pacific, 110.6% in the European Union, and 81.4% in the Middle East and North Africa.

The percentage of students enrolled in public and Al-Azhar universities stands at 72.9%, private universities at 6.3%, private higher institutes at 14.2%, academies at 1.1%, miscellaneous institutes at 0.8%, and intermediate technical institutes (public-private) at 4.8% during academic year 2018 / 2019.

The number of students enrolled at Al-Azhar University reached 360,100 students, making up 15.9% of total number of students enrolled in public universities and Al-Azhar during the academic year 2018/2019, followed by Cairo University with 196,600 students, representing 8.7% of the same student population.

The number of students enrolled in Misr University for Science and Technology reached 23,700 students by 12.1% of the total number of students enrolled in private universities during the academic year 2018/2019, followed by the sixth of October University with 23,300 students with 12% of the same student population.

The total number of students enrolled in technical institutes reached 147,600 students during the academic year 2018/2019, compared to 132,100 students during the academic year 2017/2018, an increase of 11.7%.

The percentage of students enrolled in public technical institutes reached 96.2%, while the percentage of students enrolled in private technical institutes reached 3.8% during the academic year 2018/2019 of the total students enrolled in technical institutes.
