Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held separate phone calls with his counterparts from Pakistan, Oman and Somalia on Sunday, discussing regional military escalation, diplomatic efforts to ease tensions, and developments in the Horn of Africa and Red Sea.
Abdelatty received a call from Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, during which the two officials reviewed proposals aimed at containing regional tensions and restoring diplomatic efforts.
Abdelatty said Egypt supports continued coordination through the regional quadrilateral mechanism and rejects threats against Gulf states or the use of strategic straits and maritime routes as tools of pressure or escalation.
According to Egypt’s Foreign Ministry, the two ministers stressed the need for the United States and Iran to resume dialogue and negotiations aimed at reaching understandings that could end the current crisis and limit its impact on the region.
In a separate call with Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Abdelatty discussed bilateral relations and the latest regional escalation.
The two ministers stressed the need for continued Egyptian-Omani coordination with regional and international actors to support de-escalation and prioritise political and diplomatic solutions.
Abdelatty also received a call from Somali Foreign Minister Abdulsalam Abdi Ali to discuss bilateral relations and developments in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea.
Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s support for Somalia’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as efforts to strengthen Somali state institutions.
The two ministers also discussed follow-up on the outcomes of a quadrilateral consultative summit hosted in New Alamein, focusing on supporting security, stability, development and de-escalation in the Horn of Africa and Red Sea region.
