Interior Ministry pardons 211 prisoners in celebration of Eid Al-Adha

The Egyptian Ministry of Interior pardoned 211 prisoners on Tuesday in as a celebration of the Islamic holiday of Eid Al-Adha. The decision comes in accordance with presidential decree No. 280 for 2017.

According to a statement by the ministry, the prison service sector made selections to examine the files of prisoners across the nation to determine the most suitable profiles who deserve pardoning. Ninety-three of them were given permanent pardons, while 118 were provided conditional pardons.

The statement added the pardons are part of the ministry’s “keenness to apply the modern concept of the penal policy.”

The ministry grants pardons to prisoners in a regular manner before major religious and national occasions.
