Leading global technology company Honeywell was set to showcase a wide variety of the latest connected technology offerings at the Egypt Petroleum Show (EGYPS) 2017—held under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi—that was held at the Cairo International Convention Centre from 14-16 February.

Honeywell’s “Connected Plant, Connected Worker” themed pavilion showcased cutting-edge innovation that delivers new possibilities for safety, productivity, efficiency, organisational responsiveness, and profitability through the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).

About 10,000 visitors to EGYPS had the opportunity to learn how Honeywell’s latest connected, software-enabled technologies can help Egypt unlock the full potential of its oil and gas reserves through more efficient, productive, and profitable operations.

IIoT by Honeywell brings together existing and new technologies in order to drive better efficiency and agility in manufacturing industries by delivering meaningful information where and when it is needed the most.

“Honeywell has been present in Egypt for more than 30 years across different fields, and it has a very strong footprint among some major infrastructural, industrial, and commercial projects in Egypt,” said Khaled Al-Hashem, Honeywell president in Egypt.

Al-Hashem said that Honeywell sees Egypt as a very unique country that has one of the highest untapped potentials in the region.

“We’re following very closely all the economic reforms that the government has embarked on recently and we’re planning a big expansion plan across the different fields in Egypt,” said Al-Hashem.

He further said that Honeywell is a global leader in oil and gas technology, including control systems, petrochemical technology, gas processing units, programmable logic controllers, and more.

“What’s unique about Honeywell is that we, as a company, have the right combination of products, software, hardware, and services that combine together to make sure we get the maximum return and output from the existing assets,” added Al-Hashem.

Honeywell showcased their connected plan and connected worker platforms—both hardware and different software solutions.

“The key message here is that we’re offering more than just the product. This is how Honeywell positioned itself above competition, because we are not only vendors, but partners that customise the huge portfolio of hardware, software, and services to come up with customised solutions leveraging to make sure the maximum return is achieved on the existing assets,” explained Al-Hashem.

Honeywell is working with their customers in Egypt, as well as the Egyptian government, on leveraging their latest technology to provide their customers with a solution that can make their operations more productive, efficient, smarter, and secure.

“We note that Egypt is embarking on a lot of challenging economic reforms, and in these situations, the most important and ultimate objective is to maximise the return of existing assets and minimize any waste across the board in any fields, and this is where Honeywell plays a great role,” said Al-Hashem.

Honeywell recently announced that it will award scholarships to six chemical engineering students at the Cairo University.

The offered scholarships are part of the company’s investment in building engineering talent in Egypt and are funded by two of Honeywell’s businesses, Honeywell UOP and Honeywell Process Solutions.

One of the key aspects Honeywell is working on is their source of knowledge transfer by training Egyptian engineers.

“Most recently, we provided a scholarship for six chemical engineering students from Cairo University, two of which will be selected this week to spend two to three months in our centres in the US to become more familiar with the nature of work and to get the training needed,” Al-Hashem said.

At the end of the current academic year, two of the students who received scholarships will be selected for internships at Honeywell UOP’s research facilities in Chicago, and at Honeywell Process Solutions’ offices in Houston.

Al-Hashem clarified that this is an investment from Honeywell that is part of their commitment to developing the Egyptian youth.

“We develop the Egyptian engineers so that it’s a partnership rather than just a technology provider,” he added.

Honeywell provides a learning management system that offers courses ranging from finance fundamentals to executive development opportunities.

EGYPS 2017 brought together Egyptian and North African government representatives, key project owners, international service providers, consultants, and financiers to address the evolving opportunities in the Egyptian and North African energy arena.
