Giza Criminal Court ordered on Sunday that labour rights lawyer Hitham Mohamedain and activist Hamdy Qeshta be released under probation after spending five months in detention.
Mohamedain was arrested on 21 April during nationwide security raids that took place prior to the 25 April demonstrations, while Qeshta was arrested during a protest in Boulaq El-Dakrour.
Both activists were accused of unlicensed protesting, spreading false news, and belonging to an outlawed group.
The protests on 25 April were against the maritime demarcation deal signed between Egypt and Saudi Arabia, which would have seen the sovereignty of the Red Sea islands Tiran and Sanafir transferred to the kingdom.
The islands issue triggered controversy among intellectuals, public figures, social media users, and activists. People from various social classes protested against the decision, and called on the state to abolish the agreement.
Others that faced similar charges have also received release orders, including activist Zizo Abdo, journalist Amr Badr, and journalist Mahmoud Al-Saqa.
The controversial deal was cancelled by the state council in June, and later appealed by the government.
