Prior to the Egypt Automotive summit that kicks off on Tuesday, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles-Egypt CEO Maciej Ratynski spoke to Daily News Egypt, saying that holding an annual summit to discuss automotive industry in Egypt will contribute to boosting the industry.

He added that it will provide an opportunity for the leading manufacturers to meet government officials and discuss their problems.

What are your views on holding an annual conference of automotive?

I think it is a good idea. It will give the chance for exchanging views and ideas and open discussions about the automotive industry, which will contribute to boosting the industry in general.

What are the most important points to discuss in such a conference?

The automotive related laws and legislations are the most important subjects to be discussed by associated parties. These include the registered specifications and measures of automotive industry, customs, registration costs, scrapping of old vehicles, environmental emission standards, and other issues.

What do you expect from the participation of all companies in Egypt’s market working with the government?

It is a brilliant idea to have governmental representatives in this conference. We expect the government, through its representatives the Ministries of Trade and of Industry and any other governmental entity, will be in a better position to form the future strategies of automotive industry. They will be capable of enacting laws and legislations for automotives.

As a participant in the conference, what do you think of the second summit after learning the discussion topics?

It is obvious that the scheduled discussions on the conference agenda will be interesting, particularly those related to the automotive industry strategy and new customs laws.

What do you think are the main obstacles for investment in Egypt?

The unclear future of automotive industry legislations prevents manufacturers from making long term plans for investment in Egypt.
