Alexandria’s Al-Raml Misdemeanor Appeals Court ordered Monday the detention of activists Mahienour El-Massry and Youssef Sha’ban until a verdict session on 31 May for charges of demonstrating violence.

El-Massry and Sha’ban were initially sentenced to two years in prison and fined EGP 50,000 alongside eight other defendants by the Alexandria Misdemeanour Court.
The defendants are accused of breaking into El-Raml police station in March 2013 and assaulting policemen.
In September, labour activist and lawyer El–Massry was released, after being arrested while participating in a protest in solidarity with torture victim Khaled Said on 2 December 2013, following the acceptance of an appeal in a different case.
El-Massry has won the 2014 Ludovic Trarieux Award, given annually to a lawyer for defending human rights.
