Egyptian President Abdel- Fattah Al-Sisi greeted various Arab leaders after they landed in the Sharm El-Sheikh airport for the Economic Summit, a presidential statement said Friday.

The President “expressed gratitude for their keenness to accept Egypt’s invitation”, according to Presidential Spokesperson Alaa Youssef’s statement.

On their part, the leaders “reaffirmed their support for Egypt’s efforts to push forth in this inclusive development”, Yousef said.

The leaders included Presidents Omar Bashir of Sudan, Mahmoud Abbas of Palestine, Prince Muqrin bin Abdel Aziz of Saudi Arabia, the Prime Minister of the U.A.E, and the Prince of Oman.

Gulf countries, primarily Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, have given Egypt millions of dollars in foreign aid following the military-backed ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013.

Egypt has been heavily promoting the conference in hopes that it will bring in more foreign investment and “economic development” after years of political and economic turmoil

The Economic Summit is taking place in Sharm El-Sheikh from 13 – 15 March.
