On Monday the Cairo Criminal Court has absolved former president Hosni Mubarak on charges of misusing public funds according to state-run Al-Ahram.
Mubarak, along with his two sons, had been charged with using state funds to finance their presidential palaces, rather than public projects.
Farid Al-Deeb, Mubarak’s defence attorney, who was present in court said the case was “fabricated” to keep Mubarak and his sons detained.
Mubarak will remain in police custody, pending trial for separate charges, including killing of protesters and embezzlement.
Al-Ahram reported that his sons Alaa and Gamal will also remain in custody.
Judge Mahmoud Al-Rashid of the North Cairo Court had previously postponed the trial of Mubarak, his sons, previous minister of interior Habib Al-Adly and six of his assistants to 25 August; who have been charged with killing protesters and embezzlement of public funds.
